Banh Chung is a traditional food we use to worship our ancestors and God of Earth & Sky for Lunar New Year (Tet). Today, our neighbours and I are making Banh Chung. It takes few hours to pack them and another 8 hours to boil them.
The story about Banh Chung & Banh day is interesting
Hung King VI would like to choose the Heir to The Throne. He told all his sons who can offer the best and meaningful food will be ceded the throne to. All the sons tried to find special dishes from jungles or deep sea to offer to Hung King VI. Only Lang Lieu prince who make Banh Chung & Banh Day “cakes” from sticky rice and mung bean. Lieu explained Banh Chung (square one) represents for The earth & Banh Day (round one) represents for The Sky. The king enjoyed these cakes and likes their meanings so he decided to select Lieu Prince to be the New King.
